One Tree's Bali Orphanage Project delivers ongoing support for children in need
Alison Chester and Riyanto Samadi founded the Jodie O'Shea Orphanage in Bali in loving memory of Jodie O'Shea, who tragically died in the Bali bombings in 2002. One Tree established a partnership with the Orphanage in 2012. Many of our staff provide regular donations to the Orphanage, and we have donated more than $5,700 this financial year.
Since we have been involved, the Orphanage has grown and is now able to provide care to 87 children. The youngest, Gracie, is just 6 months old. Every child at the Orphanage attends school in Denpasar, and is supported to complete their schooling and enter the workforce. No funding is provided by the Indonesian government, so One Tree’s ongoing support allows the orphanage to operate and provide opportunities for children in need.
We encourage staff who are travelling to Bali to visit and spend time with the children. Karen Curtis from One Tree Altona Meadows, Deb Ross from One Tree Wickham, Sam Vadala from Len Taplin and Sally Campbell from the Enrolments Team have all visited the Orphanage recently. The children at One Tree OSC Brentwood in Perth have been creating artworks and writing letters to children at the Orphanage, and our Receptionist, Jordan Davis, is looking forward to visiting later this month to deliver the artwork!
