Wyndham centre thrives under new support

"Almost three months after being signed over to be managed by the Children's Services Support Unit, Wyndham Child Care Centre has gone from strength to strength.

Enrolments at the centre are increasing and recently fees for permanent bookings have dropped from $105 a day to $95 a day.

Centre director Sheridan Vince said it was important the community still had access to the service.

"I think it is important for children and families to be attending and supporting the centre to keep it open long term," she said.

One Tree took over the licence after the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley foreshadowed during last year's budget that it could not afford to continue operating the facility.

The Shire initially flagged it would close the facility completely but a campaign run by concerned community members saw its funding extended until a suitable private service could take it over.

"Our numbers are increasing which is good, things are picking up a bit after the transition earlier this year," Ms Vince said.

"It's been nearly three months since we opened again and the ball is rolling now."

The centre is now looking at also launching after-school care from 2pm-4pm and is seeking expressions of interest."
