Our service is located in the heart of Exmouth town and faces a park where the resident emu struts by.
Emus and wildlife walk past the service every day to the delight of the children. Every November the service has a visitor known as “Bungarra” (the Aboriginal word for a sand goanna). The children watch out for Bungarra and we even have a special Bungarra song.
Bernice McLeod is the only childcare service in Exmouth and is heavily relied on by working families. Our service thrives to be a warm and welcoming place for parents.
The centre is open-plan and has a great vibe for visitors. The garden is large, with beautiful trees the children enjoy climbing, to view the world.
Our approach
Bernice McLeod educators embrace the Reggio Emilia philosophy and incorporate all things uniquely Exmouth into their child initiated programs. These programs are built on the principles of strengthening families, building robust relationships, sharing responsibilities and a commitment to collaboration.
Our children and families are influenced by the natural beauty and environmental significance of the Ningaloo Marine Park and Cape Range National Park. Fishing, camping, boating, swimming and snorkeling are some of the activities the children and their families engage in. These activities provide numerous opportunities for our children to explore, imagine and reflect on the natural world – both inside and outside the centre.
Sustainability is also important to us. We recognise the actions we make today have an impact on the future. We try to make smart decisions in order to avoid impacting on, and limiting the choices of generations to come. These decisions include maintaining a worm farm, recycling, encouraging families to donate unwanted clothes to the orphanage and swapping items with our local op shop.
Our services
We are a 25-place service. We are a long day care service. We do not provide casual care for the holidays.
- Our babies room caters for infants from 0 to 30 months.
- Our kindy room caters for children from 30 months to six years.
We have a large shaded outdoor learning environment. This is a communal space where all of the children come together and have the opportunity to participate in group or individual play.
