One Tree Gurlu Gurlu Maya Children’s Service

Long Day Care, Ngarluma Country

We acknowledge the Ngarluma Ngarli (peoples) as the Traditional Owners of the Ngurra. In the spirit of reconcilitation, we recognise their continuing cultural connection to their Ngurra (Land), Bawa (water), and Ngarda-Ngarli (community). We pay our respect to their Elders both past and present.

Welcome to One Tree Gurlu Gurlu Maya Children’s Service

At One Tree Gurlu Gurlu Maya Children’s Service, we are proud to be part of a Ngarda-Ngarli (community) rich in culture, history and resilience. Nestled in the heart of Ieramugadu (Roebourne), one of Western Australia’s oldest towns, our service is privileged to learn and grow on the Traditional Lands of the Ngarluma Ngarli while welcoming families from many Aboriginal language groups and cultures across the Ngarluma Ngurra (homeland).

For many years, our service has been more than an early learning centre. It has been a place where marngurla(children) are known, families are welcomed and relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We recognise that every marngurla arrives with their own story, their own strengths and a unique connection to family, culture and Ngurra. These stories shape our program and inspire the way we support marngurla learning each day.

Ieramugadu is a close-knit Ngarda-Ngarli where culture, family and connection are deeply valued. We embrace these values by creating an environment where marngurla experience a genuine sense of belonging and where families feel respected, heard and included. We understand that raising marngurla takes a Ngarda-Ngarli, and we are proud to work alongside parents, caregivers, Elders and local organisations to give every marngurla the best possible start in life.

Our learning environments are filled with opportunities for marngurla to explore, create, discover and develop confidence through play. We celebrate Aboriginal perspectives every day, not as special occasions but as an integral part of who we are. Through storytelling, language, music, art, time on Ngurray (country) and meaningful Ngarda-Ngarli connections, marngurla develop a strong sense of identity and respect for the diverse cultures that make our Ngarda-Ngarli so special.

As a remote service, we understand the unique strengths and challenges that families may experience. We are committed to providing high quality early education that is flexible, inclusive and responsive to the needs of our Ngarda-Ngarli. We believe every marngurla deserves to feel safe, valued and empowered to become a confident learner and an active member of their Ngarda-Ngarli.

Our story continues to be written by the marngurla who fill our spaces with laughter, the families who trust us with their most precious people and the Ngarda-Ngarli members who share their knowledge, culture and experiences with us. Together, we are nurturing confident, capable and connected marngurla who are proud of who they are and where they come from.
