We’re introducing the key person approach

At One Tree, we’re introducing the key person approach into our services. This is being rolled out between November 2021 to March 2022, starting with our services in the Pilbara. It’s going to take time to do it properly and we’re determined to get it right.

What is the key person approach?

The key person approach is about each child having someone focused on them when they are at the service. Someone who has a special relationship with the child and the parent.

Why do we believe in the key person approach?

We believe that each child needs someone they feel close to at the service. Someone who really knows and cares about them. The key person approach is based on research about how important it is for each child to form close relationships with capable adults who regard them as special. The younger a child is, the more important this is.

The key person is also there for parents and carers. This is someone family members can build a relationship with who can help them too.
