Defence One Tree Childcare- Coventry
Location: Southbank, VIC
Position: 1 years experience as a 2IC – Diploma Qualified 
One Tree Defence Coventry is in the heart of Southbank, with a tram on your doorstep and parklands across the road. We are a small and cosy centre with only 50 children split across our long day care. We have a kindergarten program, nursery and toddler room. Our opening hours are 7am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday.

About the Role:

As the 2IC, you will work closely with the Centre Director to ensure the smooth and effective day-to-day operation of the service. You will be a key leader, supporting staff, engaging with families, and ensuring compliance with all regulations and standards. This position is ideal for someone with strong leadership skills and a passion for early childhood education.

This role is a mix of on/off the floor.

Break down of the role:
-3 days on the floor covering breaks
-1 day on the floor covering the Ed leader
-1 day off the floor assisting the director with all their service needs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Communication: Provide strong leadership and direction to reporting staff, fostering a positive work environment. Act as a role model for communication and conflict management.
  • Creative Problem-Solving: Facilitate and support creative solutions to challenges, ensuring a positive experience for children, families, and staff.
  • Independent Work: Be self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently to manage daily operations.
  • Family & Community Partnerships: Actively create and maintain strong partnerships with families, staff, and the broader community.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Maintain a thorough understanding of the Children’s Services Regulations, Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), and National Quality Standards (NQS).
  • Staff Supervision: Provide supervision, guidance, and support to staff, ensuring adherence to One Tree’s operational standards.
  • Workplace Health & Safety: Oversee and ensure the workplace operates within WHS requirements, maintaining the highest standards of care for children and families.
  • Responsible Person: Act as the Responsible Person when required, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Qualifications: A Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (or equivalent).
  • Experience: At least 1 years of experience in a 2IC or similar leadership role within a childcare setting.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and conflict management skills.
  • Passion: A commitment to providing high-quality education and care for children, with a focus on community engagement and family partnerships.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of the EYLF, NQS, and Children’s Services Regulations.
  • Independence: Ability to work autonomously and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
