The Pathways Mentor Program operates across five communities in remote Western Australia (WA) – Roebourne, Kununurra, Port Hedland, South Hedland and Derby.
The aim of the program is to create employment opportunities for local people in these communities. Through our Registered Training Organisation (RTO), trainees are enrolled to complete on the job learning while working in our Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) services. Our mentors support the growth and development of our trainees using an innovative, wraparound support model. This can in turn lead to an increase in available placements at a service as trainees become qualified educators.
Mentors assist trainees and support their wellbeing as they enter the workforce by:
- Providing holistic support.
- Supporting trainees to build and maintain positive workplace relationships
- Building understanding and knowledge of the operational requirements of ECEC services.
- Supporting trainees to reach their goals.
- Role modelling support strategies for children, including positive communication, inclusive practices and partnership working approaches.
- Increasing completion rates of trainees.
- Assisting to provide a culturally safe workplace.
- Assisting trainees to meet the outcomes and deliverables as set out in the Pathways Mentor Program plan.
