Our approach

Altona Gate Kindergarten’s vision is to promote an educational culture that recognises and celebrates the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, respectfully embedding their practices, culture, and knowledge into our environments.

Our community

Children’s connection to their community is essential to their sense of belonging, and educators play a key role in cultivating these relationships. Our wish is to develop a strong foundation of learning for the children, families, and staff by consulting with, working alongside and listening to families, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We will collectively build our understanding for a better future based on stronger relationships, high quality Early Childhood education and equal opportunity for all.

Our service

We are a one room kindergarten with 30 places for 3-year-olds, and 30 places for 4-year-old children.

Our educational program

We offer free Victorian Government funded sessional kindergarten for three and four-year-olds. Our programs are guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and National Quality Standards (NQS) to support each child’s learning and development.

One Tree’s educational program aligns with the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework. We are inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy that educators are co-learners who collaborate with children.

All children who turn three or four by April 30, 2025 and meet the Victorian Government criteria are entitled to 15 hours per week of low-cost kindergarten.

All Aboriginal children are entitled to two years of free kindergarten.
