Our commitment to child safety
At One Tree, the safety, wellbeing and protection of every child and young person are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating safe, inclusive environments where children feel respected, supported, and able to thrive. We have zero tolerance for any form of child abuse or harm.
Children’s safety, rights, and best interests guide every decision we make. We listen to children, take their concerns seriously, and act with care to support and take all reasonable steps to prevent harm. Our approach is grounded in the principle of paramountcy, ensuring children’s safety always come first.
We are committed to transparency and accountability. Any conflicts of interest are identified, disclosed, and managed in line with the National Law, so that children’s safety is never compromised.
Our staff, volunteers and leaders are supported with clear guidance, training, and resources to recognise risks and respond appropriately. Together, we foster a strong child-safe culture where every child is valued and protected.
How we put our commitment into practice
We support children’s safety and wellbeing by:
- Creating child-centred environments where children’s voices are valued and listened to
- Maintaining a clear Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics for all staff, volunteers, students and contractors
- Ensuring appropriate staff hold current Working With Children Checks and National Police Clearances
- Applying thorough recruitment and screening processes, including referee checks and values-based selection, to help us appoint people who share our commitment to child safety and wellbeing
- Providing ongoing training so our people are confident in recognising and responding to concerns
- Maintaining clear, accessible reporting pathways for children, families and staff
- Regularly reviewing our policies, procedures and practices to strengthen our child safe culture
- Promoting inclusion, cultural safety and respect for diversity so every child feels a sense of belonging
We work in partnership with families and communities because child safety is a shared responsibility.
